Meet Cindi Vokey, BSN, RN

I have worked as a Registered Nurse in the Aesthetic Medical Field for over 18 years. My experience includes Advanced Injector, Trainer & Educator. Through my own mistakes and errors, I have learned valuable lessons the hard way. Over 10 years ago, I found myself facing licensing issues as a Registered Nurse in Aesthetics. Most Importantly, these mistakes were avoidable. I promised myself I would learn everything I could and grow from this experience. Since then, I have gained experience & knowledge about Practice Compliance & License Protection.

It is my passion to work with my peers, providing education & Clinical Compliance Guidelines in a Field that has many pitfalls. In 2023, I began Aesthetic Nursing Policy & Procedures, Inc. I have worked with Providers in over 23 states, helping others avoid potential licensing issues.

Do you know what "compliant" standardized policies & procedures are? Did you know you can have a disciplinary action taken against your license if you do not have standardized policies & procedures in place? Standardized policies & procedures are required in every state when performing medical treatments.

When Healthcare Providers (Nurses, Nurse Practitioners or Physician Assistants) perform Medical Treatments, we are required to follow guidelines that have been developed within the facility. The Nursing Scope of Practice in every state allows Nurses to function independently in their role. That means Registered Nurses can perform assessments, evaluations, plan of care – under the Nursing Scope of Practice. We can make a nursing diagnosis, but cannot diagnose medical conditions or approve patients for treatment, both of which require an advanced level provider or Physician.

It can become confusing, since Medical tasks & treatments are intertwined within the Nursing role. When we work in a hospital, we provide medical & nursing care. We work in a facility that has already developed and implemented standardized guidelines for us to follow. As a regulated facility, it is required to have these in place to ensure proper safety for patients. Legally, for the Facility, they cannot operate without these. We are taught a standardized way of performing all aspects of patient care.

We begin with orientation. Then a preceptor. During this time, we are evaluated, we have to show we are competent. Once we have been able to complete the nursing & medical tasks independently, we are allowed to provide safe patient care following the standardized guidelines.

The Aesthetic Medical Field is the same. When we provide Medical treatments, we are then merging medical & nursing together. For this reason, we are required to collaborate & develop standardized procedures between Medicine & Nursing. It is our responsibility to ensure we follow our scope of practice, which will protect our careers and business.

During my initial consult, I will review State Board Guidelines, providing an overview of what we need to have in place to protect our license and provide safe patient care. Many providers get lost in this aspect, since it seems like we need to piece together "all of the things" that we need to put into place. By working together, we can make this happen!
